It doesn’t happen every day or even every year that boxing fans get their wish. But less than a month after Christmas, news of a looming unification bout between Japanese superstar and WBA/IBF unified bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue and the mercurial Filipino, WBO bantamweight king John Riel Casimero lit up social media.
John Riel Casimero entered the ring an underdog and exited with the WBO world bantamweight belt in his hands. There were questions in the minds of boxing pundits going into this fight if the grizzled Filipino road warrior could handle Zolani Tete’s southpaw stance and huge height and reach advantage.
In a magnificent world title fight South Africa’s Zolani Tete (28-3, 21KOs) risks his WBO bantamweight title against Filipino interim champion John Riel Casimero (28-4, 19KOs) where the winner will be likely to face IBF and WBA title holder Naoya Inoue in 2020.
