By Lee Thornton – On September 20th, 2025, highly skilled fighter Cam Laing of Ten Eight Boxing in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada will make his professional debut at the brand-new Hard Rock Casino. Fighting in front of a hometown crowd on a United Boxing Promotions card, Laing steps into the spotlight with a promotion that has been a staple in the Ontario boxing scene for years and recently partnered with Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions for a great night in Toronto.

When Laing first walked into Ten Eight Boxing, he was new to the sport but quickly caught the attention of Head Coach Kyle Smith with his incredible work ethic, sharp mindset, and ability to absorb fundamentals at a rapid pace. From day one, Smith emphasized the importance of defense, stance, footwork, distance, and angles—cornerstones of the Ten Eight philosophy.

Laing’s amateur career gave him valuable experience, competing in Canada’s biggest tournaments and performing in front of large crowds in upstate New York. Frequent trips to Montreal to spar with elite boxers—where champions are consistently produced—played a major role in his growth on the road to becoming a professional.

A standout trait of Laing’s style is his versatility. He can march forward aggressively or fight effectively off the back foot, counterpunching with precision. He pairs elite head movement and sharp footwork with angles that frustrate opponents. His lead arm control, his body work wears fighters down, and his overhand right carries fight-ending power. Combined with his top-level conditioning, fans can expect a full display of the sweet science every round he’s in the ring.

Laing’s dedication is unmatched—practically living at Ten Eight Gym—and he has become both a role model and inspiration to others there. He’ll be guided on fight night by Head Coach Kyle Smith, Assistant Coach Domenic Di Marco, and cutman Steve Smith, a former paramedic who first introduced his son Kyle to boxing.

Another key figure in Laing’s team is Emily Rose, co-owner of Ten Eight Boxing. Critical to the club’s day-to-day operations, Rose has worked Laing’s corners in the past and is known for constantly expanding her knowledge, seemingly adding a new certification every month.

Don’t miss the skilled southpaw “Killah” Cam Laing this Saturday. Also keep an eye on rising talent Mccainly “Nightmare” Thomas, another Ten Eight product with a tall, rangy frame reminiscent of Tommy Hearns—and a dangerous one-two combination that would make Hearns proud.

When asked what this moment meant to him, Laing shared:

“I’m excited. I’ve been working endlessly for the opportunity to shine on an even bigger stage. The fact that it’s happening in my city makes it even more monumental for me personally. I’ve got the support of the whole city behind me, and I can feel their energy. It’s only boosting mine while building on the growing confidence I already have going into this bout.”
