Saul “Canelo” Alvarez successfully defended his IBF title against the previously unbeaten William “El Indomable” Scull via unanimous decision.
In a less than thrilling encounter Alvarez stayed on the front foot whilst Scull moved whilst countering occasionally. The judges scored the contest 115-113, 116-112, and 119-109.
“That’s why I don’t like to fight those kinds of guys, they just come to survive. September [against Crawford] will be another kind of fight,” said Canelo.
“For me, [Scull] was a boring fight… I hate those kinds of fights.”
Alvarez says he knew Scull would move a lot, but not that much.
“But it’s OK, we won. I am two-times undisputed champion and I’m grateful to fight in Saudi Arabia, and thank you, everyone, for coming [to watch] me, my family, my friends, everybody,” he said.
“Like I always say, viva Mexico cabrones!”
WBC cruiserweight champion Badou Jack “The Ripper” (29-3-3, 17 KOs) retained his belt with a narrow twelve round majority decision over champion in recess Noel “Dark Horse” Mikaelian (27-3, 12 KOs). Scores were 114-114, 115-113, 115-113.
Super middleweight Jamie Munguia (45-2, 35 KOs) avenged his previous loss with a twelve round unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Bruno Surace (26-1, 5 KOs). Munguia was not to be denied as the scorecards reflected 116-112, 117-111, 117-111.
Heavyweights Martin Bakole (21-2-1, 16 KOs) and Efe Ajagba (20-1-1, 14 KOs) battled to a ten round draw. Ajagba looked to have done enough but the judges had it 96-94 Ajagba, 95-95 2x.
