Rolly Romero (17-2, 13 KOs) pulled off the upset of the night with an unexpected twelve round unanimous decision over Ryan Garcia (24-2, 20 KOs) to claim the vacant WBA “regular” welterweight title on Saturday night in a temporary ring outdoors in New York City’s Times Square.

In the second round, Romero delivered a powerful left hook that dropped Garcia. While Garcia managed to endure the round, Romero maintained the pressure, causing Garcia to appear apprehensive throughout the remainder of the contest. The judges rendered a unanimous decision in Romero’s favour, awarding scores of 115-112, 115-112, and 118-109.

Teofimo Lopez, the WBO junior lightweight champion, successfully defended his title in a decisive twelve-round unanimous decision against previously undefeated Arnold Barboza, the top-ranked fighter at the time. Lopez’s impressive performance was evident in the scores, which were 116-112, 116-112, and 118-110.

In a non-title welterweight bout between former world champions, Devin Haney (32-0, 15 knockouts) emerged victorious against Jose Ramirez (29-3, 18 knockouts). Despite a tentative start, Haney demonstrated superior boxing skills, effectively frustrating Ramirez and ultimately securing a unanimous decision. The judges scored the fight 119-109, 119-109, and 118-110.
