Revenge was served by Dmitry Bivol who edged a decision over his compatriot Artur Beterbiev to claim the undisputed light-heavyweight world title in Saudi Arabia.
Bivol was the quicker of the two men, able to land flurries in between the marauding style of Beterbiev to claim a majority decision on the judges scorecards by scores of 114-114, 116-112 and 115-113, reversing October’s points loss to his rival.
“I wanted to work from the first round to the end of the 12th. I was better. I was pushing myself more, I was more confident and I was lighter. I wanted to win so much today,” Bivol said.
“I didn’t want the second fight, it wasn’t my choice, but no problem. We can do a third fight if we need to,” said Beterbiev.
Heavyweight Joseph Parker needed just two rounds to stop late replacement Martin Bakole.
Parker, 33, was originally scheduled to face IBF world champion Daniel Dubois before the he had to withdrew because of illness on Thursday.
Bakole’s thudding hands seem to have found their mark early on but a huge overhand right to the top of Bakolie’s head had trainer Billy Nelson throwing in the towel.
