Two-division undisputed champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) claimed victory over WBA super welterweight champion Israil “The Dream” Madrimov (10-0-1, 7 KOs) with a twelve-round unanimous decision on Saturday night at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles.
In a close and gritty match, Crawford surged in the later rounds to secure scores of 116-112, 115-113, and 115-113. This win also earned Crawford the WBO interim belt, although it ended his streak of 11 consecutive KOs.
Promoter Turki Alalshikh revealed an offer for Crawford to face Canelo early next year.
WBA #5 super lightweight Jose “El Rayo” Valenzuela (14-2, 9 KOs) dethroned WBA world champion Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz (26-3-1, 18 KOs) via a twelve-round split decision. Despite Cruz pressing the action, Valenzuela’s effective outboxing from the outside secured him the victory with scores of 116-112, 116-112, and 115-113 in favor of Cruz. Cruz relinquished the title in his first defense.
In the heavyweight division, WBA #1, WBC #6, WBO #11, IBF #14 Martin Bakole (21-1, 16 KOs) ended the unbeaten streak of WBO #4, WBC #5, IBF #5, WBA #13 Jared “Real Big Baby” Anderson (17-1, 15 KOs) with a fifth-round stoppage. Bakole dropped Anderson in the first round and floored him twice more in the fifth before the referee stopped the fight at 2:07.
Heavyweights Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller (26-1-2, 22 KOs) and former unified champion Andy Ruiz Jr. (35-2-1, 22 KOs) fought to a twelve-round technical draw. Ruiz dominated the early rounds with his hand speed, but Miller gained momentum midway and controlled the latter part of the fight. The judges scored it 116-112 for Miller, and two scores of 114-114.
In a battle for the WBA “regular” light heavyweight title, unbeaten David Morrell (11-0, 9 KOs) triumphed over Radivoje “Hot Rod” Kalajdzic (29-3, 21 KOs) with a unanimous decision. The former WBA super middleweight champion earned scores of 117-111, 117-111, and 118-110.
