Ryan Garcia clashed with Devin “The Dream” Haney, the undefeated WBC super lightweight champion, in a twelve-round bout at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Despite Garcia’s tumultuous lead-up, including missing weight by 3.2 pounds, the match unfolded unpredictably.
Garcia stunned Haney with a powerful left hook early on, but Haney showcased superior boxing skills in rounds two to six. However, Garcia regained momentum, knocking Haney down twice in rounds seven and ten and again in round eleven. Despite the intense exchanges, the judges rendered a split decision of 112-112, 114-110, 115-109. Since Garcia failed to make weight, Haney retained his championship title.
In a night filled with intense bouts, Arnold Barboza Jr., ranked #1 by the WBO, #6 by the WBC, and #7 by the IBF in the super lightweight division, controversially secured a split decision victory over Sean “The Public Nuisance” McComb, ranked #8 by the WBO, after a hard-fought ten rounds. Despite McComb’s control of the action and preventing Barboza from gaining momentum, the judges scored it 98-92 for McComb, 96-94, 97-93 for Barbosa, inciting boos from the disappointed fans.
Additionally, Bektemir “The Bully” Melikuziev, ranked #5 by the WBA, #10 by the WBO, and #14 by the WBC in the super middleweight division, claimed an eight-round technical decision victory over previously unbeaten Pierre Dibombe after a clash that saw both fighters sustain cuts from headbutts. Melikuziev dropped Dibombe in the fifth round, leading to the bout being stopped at the beginning of round eight, with Melikuziev declared the winner by scores of 79-73, 79-73, 78-74.
In another notable match, David “Medallita” Jimenez, ranked #5 by the WBA, secured the interim super flyweight title by outworking previously unbeaten #1 contender John “Scrappy” Ramirez over twelve rounds, with scores of 117-111, 117-111, 116-112.
Additionally, Charles “Bad News” Conwell, ranked #3 by the WBC in the super welterweight division, won his Golden Boy debut by sixth-round TKO against Nathaniel Gallimore, while Sergiy Derevyanchenko, ranked #7 by the WBC in the super middleweight division, dominated Vaughn Alexander over ten rounds, securing a shutout victory with scores of 100-89 across the board.
Unbeaten super middleweights Darius Fulghum and Amari Jones also showcased their skills, with Fulghum stopping Cristian Olivas in round four and Jones halting Armel Mbumba-Yassa in round six.
