By Anthony George – The boxing content for February was loaded with treats. The streaming services were saturated with solid fights and performances by champions, contenders, and prospects alike. For those who bothered to pay attention. Refraining from the silly fantasy fight debates on the socials. This feature will focus on prospects. Tsendbaatar Erdenebat is credited with the prestige of the first Zute’s Project of the Month. He is one to keep an eye on.

Erdenebat is an accomplished amateur boxer who lost a decision to Shakur Stevenson in the 2016 Olympics. Chinggis Khaan, as he has been dubbed, turned pro in 2018 and currently holds a record of 9-0 (4KOs). He last fought on ProBox TV on February 28th. Winning an eight-round unanimous decision over Mohamed Soumaro, The Black Buffalo. Mongolia’s southpaw dazzled from the start with a diverse, gritty performance featuring an eclectic attack on offense. Singing the praises of announcers and former champions Paulie Malinaggi and Chris Algeri.

Erdenebat swept two of the scorecards 80-72, while one card scored it 79-73- the same way Zute scored the bout. But do not let the wide scorecards fool you. This was a close bout. In the sense that The Black Buffalo pushed the issue and did not make Erdenbat comfortable throughout the bout. Indeed, true boxing fans know what a tough draw The Black Buffalo is.

Nonetheless, Erdenebat dazzled with a superior offensive performance. He is one to keep an eye on because he can box yet will not shy away from a firefight. He goes to the body often and combines punches with solid, stiff combinations. He throws a beautiful combination. He throws a hard right hook upstairs, then down to the body.

At age 27, his prospect status does not have a long shelf life. Still, he should not be rushed into the deep waters just yet. Solid matchmaking where he is brought along slowly, yet active- small steps up in class from The Black Buffalo every two months or so- would be ideal for 2024.

The other thing to sort out is what weight class Erdenebat should be focused on. He has competed as low as featherweight and as high as super lightweight. At 5 ‘ 4, 140 may not be wise. For now, let us keep an eye on this exciting pugilist. He deserves as much, and he is bound to entertain you.
