Middleweight Hamzah Sheeraz (19-0, 15 KOs) chalked up the biggest win of his career to date with the stoppage of former world title challenger Liam Williams (25-5-1, 20 KOs) in just one round.
Sheeraz landed a ramrod jab to the face of Williams that dropped him within the first minute of the round. That point on it became target practice with another uppercut dropping the Welshman. Showing a champions heart, Williams got back to his feet but trainer Gary Lockett had seen enough to save his fighter from more punishment.
“Let’s have it any 160lber put them in front of me and I’ll beat them,” Sheeraz said.
“I’m honoured to share the ring with Liam Williams, someone I watched growing up.
“I had a lot of doubters going into this fight, it’s part of the sport – that’s how it is. I do my talking in the ring. When I get in here I entertain.”
Two-time world title challenger Light heavyweight Anthony Yarde (25-3, 24 KOs) destroyed Marko Nikolic (32-4, 12 KOs) in three rounds. Yarde power was on show, dropping Nikolic twice in the second before the stoppage came in the third. Time 1:15.
British champion Joshua Buatsi was in attendance to seek a future fight with Yarde which he was keen to make happen.
“I would be at home if I didn’t have interest,” Buatsi said. “I’m here because I think this should be next.
“I’m down for it, I’m sure his team feel the same way.”
Yarde responded, “This fight between me and JB is a 100 times bigger [than Dan Azeez].
“Me and him have both got mutual respect but we’re both fighters, we’ve both agree to get it cracking, we’ve said it behind the scenes.
“We met for the first time at a drake concert. We spoke, we always had in our mind we’d fight. We’d get it cracking.
“Now it’s about the timing of it. For me, I’m ready whenever. Its about making the deal. If me and Joshua Buatsi could fight for a world title that’d be perfect. If not that’s fine.”
Buatsi said: “My answer’s simple and short – I’m ready.”
Lightweight Sam Noakes (13-0, 13 KOs) kept his knockout streak alive with the stoppage of Lewis Sylvester (13-1, 4 KOs) in round four of a bout for the Commonwealth, British, and WBC International Silver titles. Noakes dropped Sylvester three times on route. Time was 2:10.
