This one won’t be winning any fight of the year awards come December as fight fans got an answer to the cure of insomnia with a snooze fest of a contest.

WBO junior welterweight champion Teofimo “The Takeover” Lopez (19-1, 13 KOs) won via twelve round unanimous decision over Jamaine Ortiz (17-1-1, 8 KOs) on Thursday night at the Michelob Ultra Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, but it wasn’t pretty.

“I mean, the only thing that we got to do, I guess, double up, triple up [the jab] maybe on the shifting,” Lopez, 26, told ESPN afterward. “I blocked his jabs. I was trying to draw my jabs as much as I could at those moments.

“But he was running, he was staying off range a lot. Even when I doubled, he wasn’t there. He was just running off the sides.”

Lopez to his credit did push the action but found an opponent in Ortiz that was unwilling to engage, who instead looked to stay out of range using his feet on route to a decision loss by scores of 117-111, 115-113, 115-113.

“I don’t really care at this point because that wasn’t a fight tonight,” Lopez said. “That was just a sparring session. That’s just me chasing a chicken.”

Keyshawn Davis (10-0, 7 KOs) stepped back into the ring to stop / dominate former two-division world champion Jose “Sniper” Pedraza (29-6-1, 14 KOs). The referee mercifully stopped the contest in round six. Time was 1:09.

Lightweight prospect Abdullah Mason (12-0, 10 KOs) added to his highlight reel the annihilation of Benjamin Gurment (8-1-3, 5 KOs) who lasted two rounds before succumbing to the speed / power of Mason.

Lightweight Rene Tellez Giron (19-3, 12 KOs) scored an eight round unanimous decision over George “YuYu” Acosta (17-2, 3 KOs). Scores were 79-72, 78-73, 76-75.

Unbeaten middleweight Javier “Milwaukee Made” Martinez (10-0-1, 3 KOs) scored an eight round unanimous decision over Raul Salomon (12-3, 10 KOs). Scores were 79-73, 78-74, 78-74.

Lightweight Charlie Sheehy (9-0, 5 KOs) cruised to an eight round decision over Abdel Sauceda (12-4, 8 KOs). Scores were 80-72.
