Naoya “Monster” Inoue (26-0, 23 KOs) achieved the feat of being just the second man to become a two-weight undisputed champion in the four-belt era with the knockout of WBA/IBF king Marlon “The Nightmare” Tapales (37-4, 19 KOs) on Tuesday night at Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan.
Inoue showcased his pace and power early on which Tapales was for the most part happy to stand in front of, that was until the fourth which witnessed the first knockdown.
Instead of retreating into his shell like a lot of Inoue’s opposition he went on the front foot, fighting fire with fire that gave the fight fans great two way action.
Inoue’s power was too much to handle for the now former champion who succumbed to the punishing shots in the tenth.
