Heavyweight Jared “The Real Big Baby” Anderson (15-0, 14 KOs) passed his big first test of his career on Saturday night with the decision victory over former IBF heavyweight champion “Prince” Charles Martin (29-4-1, 26 KOs) at the Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio.
Anderson looking to make a statement in his hometown forced the action early, landing a nice right hand in the third to drop Martin to the seat of his pants. Martin who was taking the fight on short notice had a big round in the fifth but thereafter was outworked with Anderson prevailing on the scorecards by 98-91, 99-90, 99-90.
Heavyweight Arslanbek “The Lion” Makhmudov (17-0, 16 KOs) annihilated the previously unbeaten 6’8 Raphael Akpejiori (15-1, 14 KOs). Makhmudov dropping him three times before the bout was mercifully halted in the second round.
IBF Light Flyweight king Sivenathi Nontshinga (12-0, 9 KOs) retained his crown on Sunday evening as he outpointed Reggie Suganob (13-1, 4 KOs) from the Philippines over 12 rounds on Sunday at the International Convention Centre in East London, Eastern Cape, South Africa.
Nontshinga dropped Sugabob in the first with many of us believing this would be a quick outing for the champion but it slowed after that fast start as Nontshinga felt content to fight off the back foot on route to a rather straight forward defence of his title.
Middleweight Vincenzo Gualtieri (21-0-1, 7 KOs) upset former Olympian silver medalist Esquiva Falcao (30-1, 20 KOs) to win the vacant IBF middleweight world title. Gualtieri dropped Falcao in the second and tenth to comfortably win the decision by scores of 117-109 and 116-110 (twice).
Former WBO middleweight world champion Savannah Marshall (13-1, 10 KOs) dethroned undisputed super middleweight world champion Franchon Crews-Dezurn (8-2, 2 KOs) by ten round majority decision on Saturday at the AO Arena in Manchester, England. The fight wont win any fight of the year awards as both women were guilty of a lot of wrestling. Scores were 95-95, 99-92, 97-92.
Unified junior middleweight world champion Natasha Jonas (14-2-1, 9 KOs) stopped former two-time title challenger Kandi Wyatt (11-5, 3 KOs) in the eighth to claim the vacant IBF welterweight crown.
Unbeaten super lightweight Dalton “Thunder” Smith (15-0, 11 KOs) knocked out “Super” Sam Maxwell (17-2, 11 KOs) in round seven on Saturday night at Sheffield, England’s Utilita Arena.
