WBO interim junior middleweight champion Tim Tszyu (23-0, 17 KOs) needed just 77 seconds to take away any suggestion of an upset from the IBF #11 rated Carlos “Chema” Ocampo (34-3, 22 KOs) at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in Broadbeach, Queensland, Australia.
Tszyu dropped Ocampo with a right hand before subsequently landing a left hand that put a full stop to the contest.
Tszyu went on to say afterwards “I’ve got a question for everyone here. What my mother-f**king name?” He added, “I’ve got this interim belt, but I’m not satisfied. I want all four – and it’s not just the belts – I just want the name ‘Charlo’ on my resume.”

In an IBF junior featherweight title eliminator Sam Goodman (15-0, 7 KOs) took a twelve round split decision over Ra’eese Aleem (20-1, 12 KOs). Aleem seemed to have put rounds in the bank early but Goodman finished strong to win on two of the scorecards by 117-111 and 116-112. Aleem handily took the other by 116-112.
“That was tough early, he was awkward,” the 24-year-old Goodman said. “I’m so pumped, words can’t explain the work me and my team put into this. This is the start. My heart was through the roof [when I learned it was a split decision]. He’s a tough competitor. He comes in with awkward stuff. It was a big test. I knew early on I had to be smart and give him respect and I’d come through in the later rounds. We’re coming for those straps. We’re coming for them.”

PROGRAIS EDGES PAST ZORRILLA
WBC Super Lightweight champion Regis “Rougarou” Prograis decisioned late replacement Danielito Zorrilla in the first defense of his title at the Smoothie Center in his hometown of New Orleans, LA.
Zorrilla appeared to have scored a knockdown in the first but whilst rushing in for a finish was grabbed by the champion which accumulated in a tackle and referee Corona ruling it a push.
Prograis landed heavily in the third which dropped the challenger. Zorrilla showed tremendous heart in making it through the round whilst retreating into being defensive thereafter.
In a untidy affair both fighters had their highlights but Prograis was adjudged to have done enough to successfully defend his crown by scores of 118-109, 117-110 whilst the third had it to the challenger by 114-113.
In a rather dull encounter, Shakhram Giyasov moved a step closer to the WBA title with a wide unanimous decision over Harold Calderon winning via scores of 120-108, 118-110 and 116-112.
In a big upset Julissa Alejandra Guzman Michael annihilated Ramla Ali in eight rounds of their Super Bantamweight contest. Ali used her quick hands to cut the left eye of the big punching Guzman but the act seemed to further spur on the underdog who went in search of a fight ending.
Guzman found a few, one being the fourth which dropped Ali courtesy of a right hand. Ali made it upright but was put down again in the fifth. In the eighth a left hook out of nowhere dropped Ali for the count in a highlight reel nature.
