IBF featherweight champion Luis Alberto “El Venado” Lopez (28-2, 16 KOs) met the challenge of Michael “Mick” Conlan (18-2, 9 KOs) head on, fighting fire with fire on Saturday night at a sold-out SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Lopez had the upper hand in the power stakes on the night, a right uppercut putting the finishing touches to an impressive showing from the visitor. Time was 1:14.
“I hope all the world champions at the featherweight division are ready for ‘Venado’ Lopez. I’m coming for all of them” said Lopez afterwards “I want all their belts. One by one, I’m taking all their belts with me to Mexico.”
Nick Ball (18-0, 11 KOs) defended his WBC Silver title with a 12th-round TKO win over South Africa’s Ludumo Lamati (21-1-1, 11 KOs). Lamati’ with a big height advantage used it effectively early in the contest, Ball stayed composed before finding his range in close. Lamati’s corner stopped the bout with their fighter taking too much punishment.
