Paul J Daley – Garcia Via MD

I’m of the same opinion as my colleague Dean (Berks) in that I don’t necessarily label this as a ‘Super fight’ as what the mainstream media claim it to be, that being said nonetheless its a solid fight with props to both men for getting the fight over the line.

I initially thought the picks amongst my peers would be split but have found all siding with the tried and tested Gervonta Davis, probably for good reason.

It’s no secret that Tank holds most of the cards in terms of advantages going into the fight, his team have furthered strengthened those by stipulating that the fight be made at a 136Ibs catchweight plus a rehydration clause meaning that Garcia isn’t able to put on more that 10-pounds from the weigh in on Friday afternoon (moved from the morning) to the morning of the fight, that is what being the ‘A-side’ gets you.

Garcia’s trainer Dan Goosen will tell you that it isn’t a big deal but it truly is for a fighter who as been competing at the 140-pound limit for his last two fights.

All signs point to a Davis victory, but I have my reservations. Garcia can neutralise Tank’s power with his footwork, he can win rounds with his hand speed and if I’m honest, I love an outsider. So I’m going with Garcia via twelve round majority decision.

Like the old saying goes, Speed Kills.

Lee Thornton – Davis via KO

Looking ahead to the highly anticipated fight between Gervonta Davis & Ryan Garcia one common between both fighters is the power both display.

Garcia displays a lighting quick left hook, with hand speed and his massive size frame for the weight class. Looking at Davis the Baltimore native is a vicious puncher with excellent accuracy highlighted by violent uppercuts, right hook and leaping left hooks at times when his opponent is on the backfoot.

I believe Garcia will be up on the cards for the first half of this fight using his huge size advantage and speed, however eventually I see Gervonta Davis catching Garcia with a counter shot and knocking him out in the 10th round. Garcia has a major flaw of leaving his chin very high in the air and hasn’t faced near the opposition Davis has in recent bouts.  I believe Davis is the more well rounded fighter and I think he gets the job done against the talented and confident Ryan Garcia.

Dean Berks – Davis via TKO

I understand the excitement with this fight, but to call it a “Superfight” explains how desperate fans are to see the best fighters meet. Thirty years ago, this is a meeting of top contenders, albeit a very good one. Anyway, on with my prediction. I think Davis will emerge victorious here. Despite conceding height, his footwork and punch-picking accuracy are superb, even though he throws more single shots than combinations. Garcia’s speed and power no doubt mean he will have his moments, particularly in the early going, but the fact that he still carries his chin high with his hands under his jaw whilst standing tall, basic mistakes, make me think that “Tank” will land regularly without too much trouble. And though I wouldn’t be surprised to see Davis suffer an early knockdown, I think he will break Garcia down for a mid to late round stoppage.

Chris Glover – Davis Via TKO

Garcia will likely will the early rounds, but succumb to pressure later on, and I’d take Tank for the later stoppage.

Sal Gonzalez – Davis Via TKO

Tank will win between rounds 7-9. Not many southpaw sparring partners the quality of Tank here in Cali and let’s not forget that the Southpaw Luke Campbell dropped Ryan. So I’m going with Tank

Tim Ellis – Garcia

I’m gonna go against the popular pick here and say Ryan wins, knocking Davis down multiple time with just his blistering handspeed being too much while fixing his defensive issues. Davis will obviously have moments but think Ryan does the business well.

Ciaran Gibbons – Davis TKO

I expect Davis to win by stoppage in the last quarter of the fight and would not be surprised if he has to do it while behind on the score cards.

Garcia will take early lead with fast sharp combinations that catches the judges eye but not really making much of a dent in terms of damage.

As the fight goes on with Garcia slowing I expect him to walk Garcia down to get the win.

Mike Jimenez – Former World Champ – Davis TKO

Garcia is taller and longer, has the tools to be great. But mentally the dude is worried about everything except boxing. He has to be the loud one and a front runner. Already making up a lot of excuses about the clauses in the contract, which are very normal for title fights.

Tank is a DAWG, and will hunt you down and break you.

Tank is usually a slow starter. So if Garcia doesn’t win the first 4 rounds, it’ll be tough for him to keep up after that.

I’m assuming Tank takes the first 3-4 rounds to figure him out and dial him in. Then tank stalks him down and breaks him, physically and mentally.

Garcia has had a question mark on him for conditioning going into the later rounds. Also tends to have a lot of flaws that go excused and unseen because of his speed and talent.
I have Tank by decision or late KO.

If you guys saw the Plant vs Benavidez fight about a month ago, I think this will go about the same. Garcia taking some early rounds, then Tank catching up and breaking him.
Tank gets the W. Dogs out Garcia.

No surprise for either guy to win this one. Great match up of two champs in their prime.
