WBO #1 rated Tim Tszyu (22-0, 16 KOs) remained unblemished with the impressive ninth round stoppage of Tony “Superbad” Harrison (29-4-1, 21 KOs) at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
Harrison who is known for his jab got off to a solid start, keeping Tszyu at bay in the nights opener but it was temporary as Tszyu upped the pressure to tip the fight in his favour. Tszyu rocked Harrison in the third whilst generally dominating the bout until its climax in the ninth. Tszyu dropped Harrison with a barrage of shots and whilst Harrison courageously made it to his feet, the referee decided he had seen enough to wave off the bout. Time was 2:43 of round nine.
“There was some banter. In the ring, I proved I was the better man,” Tszyu said afterwards on his opponents brash talk “The respect is always there. We never bow down to chatter.
“I was smart. I knew he had a jab. He’s the man that beat the man. It means I just beat the man that beat the man. What does that make me?”
All talk now focus’ on Undisputed king Jermell Charlo “The message was sent clearly. You know what’s up, what’s next. I’m coming to America,” Tszyu said when asked what was in store for Charlo.
A DIFFERENT ANNIMAL
“I think he’s going to do the same thing [as he did against Harrison]. He’s not going to change up much” when Charlo was asked about the challenge of Tszyu
“Seeing him tonight just made me want to fight and be back in there, to get this over with, to just shut him up.
“I’ve shut up a lot of fighters. He’s just another one. I’m a different animal in there. You can’t compare me to Tony.
“Tim is next.”
