The betting underdog Liam Smith backed up his pre-fight talk with a sensational stoppage of Chris Eubank Jr in the fourth round at the Manchester Arena on Saturday night.
The fight started as a tactical affair with Eubank shading proceedings with his jab that he mixed with a accurate uppercut.
Smith stayed composed, waiting for his chance to land something sufficient which came in the fourth.
The Liverpudlian landed a right hand that looked to have shook the Son of a legend before a onslaught of shots, primarily the uppercut dropped Eubank Jr.
He got back to his feet but was noticeably hurt before a barrage of shots brought the referee into the mix to stop the punishment.
“This atmosphere was the best and it ranks at the very top” said Smith afterwards
“Everything about tonight has put it right up there.
“I would be lying if I thought I would do him like that. I said to you all week not to be kidded that he can’t be hurt because he has a good chin, if someone hits you in the right sport you are going.
“I agreed to the rematch so we will see if Chris’s team want that.”
“Big congratulations to him. He caught me with a great shot” said Eubank Jr
“The build-up was the build-up, it got a bit ugly at the end. I regretted that. I respect you, I respect your family, I always have.
“If the fans want to see a rematch, we can get it on at Anfield.
“Big respect, man.”
