Former unified titleholder Teofimo Lopez made a successful move to the junior welterweight ranks on Saturday night by stopping Pedro Campa in the seventh round in Las Vegas.
It wasn’t exactly the statement piece he was looking to make but ultimately was able to land at will against the overmatched Campa who took the form of cannon fodder in showing the effects after the seven rounds, sporting a near-closed eye and blood seeping from his nose.
An up jab dropped Campa before a follow up barrage prompted referee Tony Weeks to stop the contest at 2:14.
A jubilant Lopez wasted little time in calling out the big names of the division “We’ve been at 135-pounds for about nine years; it was killing my body,” said Lopez “We want Josh Taylor, Regis Prograis and Zapeda, that’s what we want. We want to be a two-divisional world champion”
“I’ll take all them boys and take all their dreams away, I’m here to be their nightmare”
