READING, PA – 22 year old David Stevens has a bright future ahead.  In his most recent bout, the Reading, PA-based boxer defeated Loris Barbario via 2nd round stoppage, improving to 11-0, with eight knockouts.

The fight was Stevens’ fifth since he began training with world-renowned coach Ronnie Shields in Houston. Shields sees a world championship in the future for his charge.

“This was my fifth fight with David and I’ve seen him improve in every fight,” said Shields. “I try to introduce new things when I’m working with him. He’s really turning into a really good fighter.

I think if we stay on the track we’re on right now, and keep him on pace, we’ll see him become a world champion in 3-5 years.”

Stevens has shown Shields a strong work ethic and dedication to his craft.

“He wants to learn,” said Shields. “He wants to improve every time.  He gives 100% every day. That’s what I like about him. I can show him something. He might get stuck on it, but if he does, he doesn’t stop, doesn’t get mad, talks about  ‘I promise I’ll get it.’  He keeps trying every day until he gets it.”

This dedication shined through when Stevens faced France’s Loris Barbario (8-3-1, 1KO) in an eight round, super middleweight bout July 23rd in Dallas, Stevens’ first 8 rounder. Barbario was an accomplished amateur with a record of 80-10 before going pro in 2019.  The two battled until the TKO stoppage at 1:30 of the second round.

Chris Middendorf, who promotes Stevens via his company Victory Boxing Promotions, was impressed with the win, and feels ready to see Stevens shine on a bigger stage. “It was an impressive victory over a guy with a ton of experience, and an outstanding amateur career,” said Middendorf.  “I am hoping to get him in a TV bout where he can be part of the conversation at super middleweight.”
