Perhaps the biggest upset of the weekend came in Sheffield, 35-year old former titleholder Kiko Martinez (43-10-2, 30 KOs) rolled back the years to stun the hometown crowd with the brutal knock out of Kid Galahad (28-2, 17 KOs) in the sixth round on Saturday night at the Utilita Arena.
Kid Galahad looked to be cruising to a decision victory, handily winning the first four rounds until disaster stuck towards the end of the fifth courtesy of a huge right hand from Martinez. Galahad never overcome the knockdown and just six seconds into the sixth was knocked out by another right hand.
“this may be a surprise for everyone else” Martinez said “but not for me.”
Alycia Baumgardner (11-1, 7 KOs) took over the mantle as WBC female super featherweight champion, beating previously unbeaten champion Terri Harper (11-1-1, 6 KOs). Baumgardner dominated from start to the contests finish in the fourth which was waved off at :23.
Chris Billam-Smith (14-1, 10 KOs) scored a twelve round unanimous decision over Dylan Bregeon (11-2-1, 3 KOs). Scores were 120-109, 119-109, 119-109.
