Those waiting to see the trilogy between WBC Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder on July 24th will have to wait a little while longer with the news breaking that ‘The Gypsy King’ has tested positive for coronavirus.
The news as brought frustration from Fury which is shared by the American who believes because of the action from the Brit that he is the one being penalised.
Fury dethroned Wilder in February 2020 in a rematch of a contest that was ruled a draw 14 months earlier.
BBC boxing correspondent Mike Costello said the delay “also jeopardises the chances of Fury taking on Anthony Joshua later this year in a unification showdown”.
He added: “Joshua’s team have been negotiating with the Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk about a possible contest in September.”
An Official Announcement from Top Rank is due later today (Friday).
