The Boxing world is in mourning with the news that one of the sports greats, Marvelous Marvin Hagler has passed away aged 66.
His wife broke the devastating news on Twitter, saying “I am sorry to make a very sad announcement.
“Today unfortunately my beloved husband Marvelous Marvin passed away unexpectedly at his home here in New Hampshire.
“Our family requests that you respect our privacy during this difficult time.”
Hagler was the undisputed middleweight champion between 1980 and 1987, and is an inductee of the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
The Ring magazine twice named him as their fighter of the year whilst also claiming him to be the fourth greatest middleweight of all-time.
He retired after his controversial defeat to Sugar Ray Leonard in April 1987, leaving the squared circle with a record of 62-3-2 (52 KOs).
Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to Marvelous Marvin Hagler’s family and friends, with a ten count administered from all who adored him (myself included).
