By Lee Thornton – On March 9th 2019 while watching a stacked Dazn card at Turning Stone Casino in Upstate New York. I happened to run into Boxing trainer Reginald Lloyd AKA Reg who was working in the corner of Jason Sosa that evening. Reg kept talking about this fighter named Raymond Ford who had yet to make his professional debut but was signed to Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing.
Reg assured me that Ford had all the tools to make it to the very top of the sport, which is high praise considering Reg comes from Philadelphia the boxing rich city and has been in the gym with talented boxers such as Tevin Farmer and future superstar Jaron Ennis.
Ford has some excellent amateur experience only losing split decisions to highly regarded prospects such as Keyshawn Davis and Marc Castro, along with sparring with former world champion Tevin Farmer and undisputed lightweight king Teofimo Lopez.
I needed to do more research so went in search of fight tape, finding Ford to be southpaw with blazing speed right off the bat. Ford also has an excellent straight left, right hook and is a good body puncher.
Since his debut you can already see the improvements made from Ford and Reg who are continually making adjustments in the gym from working on being more patient to improving his punch accuracy and vicious combinations.
Ford holds solid power, his style reminds me of a prime Adrien Broner with some Shakur Stevenson fighting IQ thrown in for good measure.
This Saturday (March 13th, 2021) I highly recommend Boxing fans tune into witness the outstanding rematch between Roman Gonzalez and Juan Franciso Estrada where Ford will also be showcased on the card against the biggest test of his career so far, matched with an undefeated opponent.
I fully believe Raymond Ford will win numerous world titles throughout his career and I look forward to seeing the legacy both Ford and Reg leave on the sport of Boxing.
