Lightweight Ryan “Kingry” Garcia (21-0, 18 KOs) made a significant jump in competition when he was matched with 2012 Olympic gold medalist Luke Campbell (20-4, 16 KOs) some suggesting he had bitten off more than he could chew when the two faced off at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.
Those suggestions seemed merited, Garcia floored from a big left hand from Campbell in the second. however the feeling was temporary, Garcia recovered well thereafter, steadily putting rounds in the bank, rocking Campbell in the in the fifth and now in his ascension Garcia KO’d Campbell in the seventh with a brilliant hook to the liver. Time was 1:58.
“I definitely showed a lot of people who I really am” said Garcia “I wanted to show people that whatever they call you’ a social media fighter’. You’re not what people tell you you are, you are who you choose to be. And I chose to be a champion tonight.
“I have never been dropped in my life. I think I got too excited in the moment. I felt like I could crack him, but he cracked me. I just had to get back up and show everybody what a warrior is really like.”
