BROOK AIMING TO BECOME A WORLD CHAMPION FOR THE SECOND TIME

Kell Brook has high aspirations of becoming a two-time champion of the world and still has hopes of getting bitter rival Amir Khan into the ring to face him.

Kell Brook has high aspirations of becoming a two-time champion of the world and still has hopes of getting bitter rival Amir Khan into the ring to face him.

The 33-year old from Sheffield returns to the ring up at 154lbs on February 8 against challenger Mark DeLuca after a year’s absensce from the sport, with intentions of building towards a second run at world title level at a new weight category.

In an illustrious division the current reigning champions at super welterweight are Julian Williams (IBF and WBA), who fights Jeison Rosario this weekend in Philadelphia, Jermell Charlo (WBC) and Patrick Teixeira (WBO).

Brook speaking to the media has been quoted as saying: “Yes, I would. I want to be a two-time world champion. To prove all the doubters wrong and lift a belt above my head again.

“It’s not just about [Khan]. There are other top fighters who actually want to fight.”

Questioned about what his dream 2020 would look like, Brook went onto say: “DeLuca, world title fight, Khan.”

But Brook is conscious of the fact that Khan may not fancy fighting him should he deliver an exciting spectacle on his comeback to the squared circle in a month’s time.

Speaking on his long term feud with Khan he added: “It could still be there. He needs to contact me. I’m fed up of saying his name!

“He knows where I am. He knows how to contact me.”

Brook’s main focus will be on becoming a two-weight world champion in 2020 by putting his name up in lights amongst the likes of Williams, Charlo or Teixeira.

“Those names excite me, I am smiling,” he said. “They have got the belts, and I want them. I want to be a two-time world champion.

“It’s about a world title fight. I’m not looking past DeLuca but I will take care of him.

“I want the big fights, the big names. I have no time to rest. I want it.

“People are writing me off. My last fight wasn’t fantastic. I’ve got a lot to prove. All those who think I’m past it? I’ll show them.”

Brook also went onto clarify that should the right fight at welterweight come around he could still make the 147lbs limit – but only if it made sense.

The “Special one” made it clear he would be willing to face WBO champion Terence Crawford or his former opponent Errol Spence Jr, the man who ripped away the title from him back in 2017 and now also holds the WBC strap.

Speaking on his thoughts surrounding the Crawford and Spence Jr rivalry Brook said “They do need to fight, arguably they are No 1 and No 2. I always thought Spence Jr would beat him but he had a car crash, his weight has been heavy, and Crawford has been looking good. Crawford has been active more. I’m favouring Team Bud now.”

But after more than 14 months away from the sport, Brook’s first target is to get past tough American opponent DeLuca in good fashion, the fighter from Massachusetts who only holds one defeat in his 25-fight pro career.

“I’ve dusted off the cobwebs,” he said. “I tried to make big fights in 2019 but they fell through so I regrouped, refreshed.

“I’ve got the mojo back now. I’m excited to fight in the Steel City of Sheffield. I can’t wait to perform again.

“[DeLuca] is a very tough man. He used to be a Marine. An American guy who has only had one defeat, then in his next fight he came back to beat the same guy. He is basically unbeaten.

“He is tough and determined and will come to fight so the fans are in for a real treat.”

Fight Verdict – Brook to beat De Luca , mid to late stoppage. 🥊

In my personal opinion I believe Brook should detach his name from Khan once and for all and focus on picking up another world title either at 147lbs or 154.

It’s a fight that the UK public would love to see but I think that ship has now sadly sailed and similar to Ricky Hatton and Junior Witter unfortunately it’s a fight that I don’t see happening.
