Martin Bakole is now set to take on veteran and former world title challenger Kevin ‘Kingpin’ Johnson on Saturday night in Newcastle, after a late change of opponent.
Heavyweight Bakole needed a fresh new challenge after Gabriel Enguema withdrew with an injury.
The 40-year-old American has come to the rescue and answered the call who will now fight for the 51st time in his professional career and the ninth time on these shores.
Johnson has proven experience in going the distance in unsuccessful attempts against Tyson Fury, Derek Chisora, Nathan Gorman, Andy Ruiz Jr and Filip Hrgovic. Most recently he became the only opponent to avoid a stoppage loss against the young and upcoming star Daniel Dubois.
Anthony Joshua remains the only man to have knocked Johnson out on UK soil.
The 27-year-old Scottish-based Bakole needed less then 90 seconds to put away previous opponent Ytalo Perea, and also holds a stoppage win over Mariusz Wach on his record.
Bakole vs Johnson will be part of the bill which features grudge match Lewis Ritson against Robbie Davies Jr and Ted Cheeseman against Scott Fitzgerald.
