The Formerly undisputed Cruiserweight king Oleksandr Usyk (17-0, 13 KOs) made his heavyweight debut a winning one on Saturday night, stopping Chazz Witherspoon (38-4, 29 KOs) in the seventh round at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago.
Usyk was originally scheduled to face Carlos Takam but the fight was called off due to injury and was then given the assignment of Tyrone spong which was also sidelined at the eleventh hour due to a failed drugs test, In stepped Witherspoon on four day notice, looking to upset the odds.
Usyk started the contest tentatively in an effort to gauge what the late replacement was bringing to the table, not enough which the subsequent rounds proved as Usyk was soon to find his rhythm which spelt danger for Witherspoon who by this point was struggling with the pace of the contest.
Usyk was close to stopping Witherspoon in the sixth but after more big shots found their target, the fight was stopped in the seventh
