Jimmy Kelly Jnr has announced that he will be trained by one of the faces of the Golden Era of Manchester Boxing in the form of former world titleholder Anthony Farnell.
Farnell was a part of the magical era of Manchester boxing which saw the emergence of British Boxing legend Ricky Hatton. Since his retirement in 2004, Farnell has trained fighters that include Tony Bellew, John Murray as well as guiding Ellesmere Port Bantamweight Paul Butler to the IBF world title.
Kelly Jnr discussed his link up with Farnell, “I am delighted to link up with Anthony Farnell. He has been around the block as a trainer and has worked with some top fighters and I feel like this is a good move for me at this stage in my career.
“I want to say thank you to Lee Beard for all the work he has done with me. Lee and I are still friends, I just felt I needed to freshen things up a bit like I have done with my management team as I have linked up Clearwater Boxing in recent weeks too and they have been an absolute Godsend to me, so it just came at a transitional time for myself in my career.”
Kelly Jnr continued, discussing the stylistic commonalities that Farnell and Kelly possess, “Arnie has a very similar outlook on boxing as I do. His style of training a fighter matches the way I fight and the way I have worked in the past. I believe he is going to add some things to my game that will take me to the next level.”
The Wythenshawe natives last outing saw him produce a dominant display in front of imported opposition at the home of Leeds United Football Club. Kelly opened up about what the immediate future may look like.
He said, “I want to be a world champion plain and simple and I want to fight all over the world. We have some exciting things in the pipeline that will shock a lot of people. Don’t be surprised to see me pop up on a show outside of the U.K. in the very near future.”
