GOLOVKIN KO’S ROLLS IN FOUR!

Following on from a weekend where Andy Ruiz Shocked the boxing world with his stoppage of Anthony Joshua, Steve Rolls was unable to follow suit as he succumbed to the power of Gennady Golovkin in the fourth round at Madison Square Garden in New York.

The fight took place at a contracted 164 pound limit that witnessed Golovkin take part in his first non-title fight since 2010, coming back off a nine-month layoff and a change in trainer.

Golovkin looking to make a statement immediately took control of the action, landing a left hook to the body of Rolls before a left hook to the head further gained the Canadian’s attention.

The second continued in the same vein but Rolls not to here to just roll over (excuse the pun) was effective in landing his share of shots, a jarring left hand in particular that pushed the head of the former champion back.

In the fourth, Golovkin backed up Rolls, manoeuvring him with his footwork before landing a right hand that seemed to hurt Rolls who sought solace against the ropes, Golovkin tasting blood in the water followed in with a combination before a HUGE left-hand hand dropped Rolls on his face. Rolls tried to make it back to his feet but found his legs difficult to regroup as he collapsed into a heap with referee Steve Willis calling time on the fight.

“I feel great. I feel like a new baby. Right now, I feel completely different because I came back to my knockout. I love knockouts, and I love New York. It was a great night all around,” said Golovkin

The Attention now shifting to ‘What’s Next?’ Golovkin without hesitation gave his preferred choice.

“Everybody knows. The fans know who they want me to fight next,” Golovkin said. “I’m ready for September. I’m ready for Canelo. Just bring him, just ask him. I’m ready. If you want big drama show, please tell him. I’m ready to bring back the big-drama show.”
