Former Long time Middleweight king Gennady Golovkin has signed a six-fight, three-year deal with the streaming service DAZN today (Friday) in a move that is expected to include the lucrative rematch with either Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez or Daniel Jacobs, possibly both.
Golovkin is expected to return in June after relinquishing his title to Alvarez in September via controversial decision. That particular fight marked the end of both fighters contracts with HBO with Canelo going on to sign the richest deal for a north American athlete in October, a 10-fight, $350 million agreement.
It is unknown the Financials behind Golovkin’s deal but fight fans have been assured that his fights on DAZN will be at no extra charge beyond the $9.99 monthly fee.
“DAZN has quickly become the new home of boxing by making the biggest events easily available to the fans,” Golovkin said in a prepared statement.
“When deciding on where I wanted to continue my career, DAZN’s global vision perfectly matched my goals – not just for my career, but the opportunity to showcase talented Eastern European fighters to the world.
“Thank you to my fans for all of the loyal support and I look forward to you joining me on DAZN.”
