Boxing News

Former World Champion Rocky Lockridge has passed away aged 60, his family confirming the news today.

Complications following a stroke suffered a while ago was reportedly the cause.

In the ’80s Lockridge captured the WBA and IBF titles at Super Featherweight, his first coming against Roger Mayweather in 1984 whilst his next came courtesy of the stoppage of Barry Michael.

In his time, Lockridge faced some great fighters, names such as Julio Cesar Chavez, Wilfredo Gomez, Tony Lopez and who could forget his memorable fights with Eusebio Pedroza.

Rocky’s son Ricky Lockridge confirmed his father’s passing and said, “It is with great pain but a whole heart that I tell you family and friends that my father Ricky Lockridge aka Rocky Lockridge has passed away.”

“All he wanted was to be in the comfort of his home with friends/ family. God has called him to walk through the gates of heaven.”

Lockridge had reportedly been in hospital care for the past few weeks.
