By Lee Thorton – On January 26th 2019 at Casino de Montreal, boxing fans will be treated to a feast of action where the main event could hold the potential to be a fight of the year candidate.
IBF International Super Lightweight Title holder Steve Claggett of Calgary will look to stave off the challenge of the unbeaten IBF North American Super Lightweight Champion Mathieu Germain of Montreal in a Canadian shootout which is doubtful will disappoint.
Claggett, is already well known to many boxing fans in Montreal, especially after his highly controversial decision victory over the extremely talented Yves Ulysse Jr, a result which was hard to swallow for most, including myself.
Aggression is Claggett’s main strength, using his jab and right hand as constant weapons in his arsenal, defensively he employs a high guard to take most of his opponent’s shots on the forearms.
Standing across from him Germain is the more rounded boxer, using lateral movement along with his jab to good effect. Germain’s skills shine once he establishes his range. Once in range, he focuses his efforts on landing his right hand that he frequently mixes up with body shots.
Ultimately I believe this fight will be a closely contested affair, whichever fighter follows the gameplan provided by their teams should win out.
Claggett has fought the better competition, showing excellent conditioning whilst Germain holds the better boxing IQ and has more ways to win this fight with his style of fighting.
Also featured on this card is dangerous Russian heavyweight Arslanbek Makmudov.
Makmudov scored one of the most vicious finishing combinations of the year in 2018 against Andrew Satterfield, trust me when I tell you that Makmudov is a must watch heavyweight who brings excitement every time he steps into the ring.
For fans that cant catch this card live, if you go to Punchinggrace.com for 11 dollars Canadian per month you can subscribe and watch great boxing. With loads of talent.
