WBA Cruiserweight champion in recess Denis Lebedev (32-2, 23 KOs) went the distance in beating Mike Wilson (19-1, 8 KOs) on Saturday at the Casino de Monte Carlo in Monte Carlo, Monaco. Mirrored on the divide on the scorecards, Lebedev dominated proceedings, nearly stopping Wilson in the fourth but was made to go the distance as Wilson showed his grit. Scores were 117-111, 119-109, 119-109.
WBA Super Flyweight Champion Khalid Yafai (25-0, 15 KOs) was given a scare by Israel Gonzalez (23-3, 10 KOs) who seemed to have dethroned the Birmingham man only to be denied by some controversial scoring. Yafai was unusually subdued in his performance but from the judges at ringside had done enough to come away with scores of 117-111, 116-112, 116-112
Fresh of his stoppage of the highly rated prospect of Martin Bakole, American Heavyweight Micheal Hunter continued his rich vein of form with the stoppage of former world title challenger Alexander Ustinov (34-3, 25 KOs). Up until the eighth, the contest was a damp squib which came to life when Hunter dropped the Russian. Ustinov did well to finish the round but didn’t have as much luck in the ninth after Hunter dropped him again, this time for the stoppage.
Olympic gold medalist Daniyar Yeleussinov (5-0, 3 KOs) had no trouble coming through his Welterweight clash with Marcos Mojica (16-3-2, 12 KOs). needing only three rounds to dispose of his man who had visited the canvas on three occasions on the night.
Unbeaten light heavyweight Fanlong Meng (14-0, 9 KOs) stopped Frank Buglioni (22-4-1, 16 KOs) who suffered a cut over his right eye.
