WBO Junior Welterweight World Champion Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker (25-0-3, 17 KOs) retained his title after getting off the canvas in the second to stop Alex “El Cholo” Saucedo (28-1, 18 KOs) in the seventh round at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Saucedo was the favoured fighter of the two coming into the contest, living up to his biling as he dropped the champion in the second round with a big right hand.
Thoughts fleeting of the title changing hands were halted in the seventh as the champion found his rhythm as he was credited with a knockdown in with the ropes holding up the challenger. Hooker had Saucedo right where he wanted him afterwards as he landed shot after shot until the bout was stopped. Time was 1:36.
