By Dennis Dodge – Hello once again to the 5 people that read this, sorry its taken so long but in the last few months I’ve changed jobs, moved house (I’m now a Southerner (only in location though), moved gyms (again) and been generally busy and if I’m honest pretty unmotivated about Professional boxing, my interest was highly peaked though as Ryan Burnett was scheduled and I really couldn’t wait. My lads a massive fan and as Mrs Moaner was back in mancland for the weekend we got the snacks in and searched the channels to watch. But then we realised no TV station had picked it up??? I don’t know if I missed something but how come nobody wanted to show some of the best talent the UK has plus it was on at a decent time.
Thankfully the kind people at WBSS streamed it live so we set the big telly up and sat down to be entertained. I don’t think I’ve ever been more pissed off at boxing as the scorecards came in for Zach Parker Vs Darryl Williams. I wanted Parker to win, I made excuses as the rounds went on and it became clear he had a shoulder injury and couldn’t throw more than a punch at a time, but he’s a cracking talent (and a Derby fan to boot) so I was willing him on for that hail mary. Sadly, it didn’t come and the outcome should have been simple. A UD to Williams, the possibility of a rematch in the future (looked tasty before the injury at the end of the 1st) both men leaving proud of how they did and the fans salivating for more. I’m still fuming now. I just hope Williams has the heart to come back (seriously I think I would have called it a day after that debacle) and Zach does the right thing and gives an immediate rematch (if not I’ll see you back in the moaner next time, you’re on). On a side note, the rest of the night was fine and other than that (and a bad injury to Burnett it was a good night).
Where is the Respect?
What does Tony Bellew have to do to earn even a smidgeon of respect from some people? I know he’s not everyone’s cup of tea and the fact he’s headlined numerous PPV’s on his own is another article for another day, BUT he put it all on the line against Usyk, didn’t make a fool of himself and once again shown he has a bit more skill than people give him credit for, yet the following morning certain people are instead saying that Usyk is just way overrated (same people that were saying he’d bang Bellew in 1 or 2 rounds). Do yourself a favour and sort your heads out.
Why are we paying for Chisora/Whyte 2? Correct me if I’m wrong but it’s another gatekeeper fight (top level domestic if you will) that may give us Joshua vs one or the other but not who we all want to see. Mr Hearn once said he was saving PPV’s for the biggest fights (Froch/Kessler comes to mind) as he needed the big bucks to pay the big opponents. If this is one of the biggest fights, I can see why I’m becoming so apathetic to it all.
Other than that, it’s the same old moans really, I don’t see why we have such a space between fights these days, reading Bunce’s short history and you see how much the top stars did in their day.
Get rid of this aura around the unbeaten fighter, I don care if your 15-0 if you’ve never stepped up (and I won’t pay for a ticket either), go the harder route, Josh Taylor took on some serious opposition and is quite rightly being called a superstar in the making as he’s learnt from the opponents he’s had (The fact it’s an unbeaten record is all the better too and actually means something).
Introduce family tickets at certain events, start encouraging them to come and you might help to get rid of the dickheads that turn up for a beer and a battering.
I’m struggling for a new unsung hero so If you or anyone know of a boxer that should be better known etc than drop me a comment with their names.
