TOPCLASS PREVIEW | BURNS VS. CARDLE

By Anthony RitchieRicky Burns takes on Scott Cardle tonight at the Manchester Arena, in what is surely a crossroads fight for both men, with so much on the line, this undercard fight has the potential to be a domestic fight of the year, and I’m not understating when I say that surely the loser is left with a long road back.

Burns has been fighting at the higher level, losing a unification bout with Julius Indongo and a domestic bout with Anthony Crolla, his most recent contest being a routine win over Ivan Njegac, with 50 fights under his belts, surely this is his last chance to get himself back among the Lightweight scene, which is packed with talent and potential big fights.

Cardle’s last four fights have included wins over Michael Mooney and Lee Connelly, which have been sandwiched between losses when challenging both Robbie Barrett and Lewis Ritson for the British Title. This is not quite last chance saloon for Cardle but a big opportunity to gain a big scalp in Burns as he looks to move back into title contention.

The prediction is for Burns to prevail on points as he shows his class into the later rounds and pulls away on the cards, his big fight experience telling the longer the fight goes on.

I've been in the boxing industry for over 16 years but been a fan for almost double that figure. I'm the proud owner of TopClassBoxing which continues to go from strength to strength as we strive to give fight fans a voice to be heard amongst the community. I've also had several articles published by reputable magazines and you can usually catch me around ringside.
