Boxing News Fight Preview

By Anthony Ritchie –  A Semi Final place is at stake on Saturday 3rd November 2018, when Ryan Burnett takes on living legend Nonito Donaire in the final Quarter Final of the Bantamweight World Super series at the Hydro Arena in Glasgow, in what surely promises to be one for the boxing purists.

Burnett who is currently 19-0 is on a great run of form, since beating Lee Haskins for the IBF World Title in June 2017, defended it again in October, taking the WBA Super Bantamweight title off Zhanat Zhakiyanov in the process, he has since given up the IBF Title due to boxing politics, but he then defended his Super title against Yonfrez Parejo in March 2018. Burnett does seem to have the unique ability with his slick style to make fights look easier than they should be but in the opposite corner on Saturday is a fighter who has been there and done it in the Filipino Flash. Hopefully, this will push Burnett to greater heights than he has previously shown, heights I believe he is certainly capable of.

His Quarter Final opponent, however, is a future Hall of Famer, he has held seven World Titles and is a multiple champion in four weight classes, coming off two losses in his last three fights to Jessie Magdaleno and Carl Frampton respectively, the theory is Donaire is on the way down, in what will possibly be his last chance at the big time, he still has enough quality though to push Burnett all the way into the championship rounds.

The prediction is Burnett to box and move sufficiently enough to negate what is left of Donaire’s power and speed, which has earned him the nickname the Filipino Flash throughout his illustrious career. A wide points decision is expected as Burnett moves through to the Semi-Final, where greater tests lie ahead.
