Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade (26-0, 16 KOs) captured the vacant WBO middleweight title on Saturday night with a twelve round unanimous decision over Walter Kautondokwa (17-1, 16 KOs) at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.
Kautondokwa replaced Billy Joe Saunders who was stripped of his title due to a failed drugs test but offered no match for Andrade, dropping him to the canvas four times in the first four rounds.
Andrade was elusive, quick and hurtful with his shots, all attributes that caused nightmares for the replacement. A two punch combination setup the first knockdown which momentum led to Andrade catching Kautondokwa whilst he was already down, which no foul was called.
A big straight left hand in the third dropped Kautondokwa again whilst he visited the canvas a couple more times, expectedly we all thought it would be an early nights finish from the bout. It didnt turn out that way as Andrade coasted for the duration of the bout to record wide scores of 120-104 (twice) and 119-105.
Andrade said after the bout “We are going to build on this. I wanted to fight Saunders, but Kautondokwa was tough too. I’ll sit down with Eddie Hearn and decide what’s next. I want to continue to fight the best!”
