WBC Super Middleweight champion David Benavidez has tested positive for a banned substance after the announcement was made by WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman announced via Twitter.
Benzoylecgonine which is a compound found in cocaine was found in Benavidez’s system during a random doping test conducted in August by the VADA.
“The WBC has begun the protocol and investigation on these out-of-competition adverse findings for recreational drugs,” Sulaiman told The Ring Magazine.
The 21-Year-old is boxing youngest titeholder and was scheduled to face Anthony Dirrell later this year.
It is unsure if that fight will be affected although Benavidez could face a fine or even a suspension for the positive test depending on the ruling.
