Joseph Diaz Jr. (27-1, 14 KOs) inability to make weight was the cause of him not becoming the WBA World Featherweight champion last night, as he outpointed the champion Jesus Rojas (26-2-2, 19 KOs) at the Avalon Theater in Hollywood, California.

The fight was changed to a non-title affair with Rojas retaining his crown. Diaz throughout the contest was the more active of the two fighters but couldn’t land anything substantial enough to stop Rojas from coming forward.

Diaz used his better boxing to circle with a jab and move style employed, winning rounds as the champion stalked his prey waiting for an opportune moment to pounce, It didn’t come as the judges scored widely in favour of Diaz by scores of 117-111, 116-112, and 115-113.
