TENNYSON SIGNS AN EXTENSION TO HIS MANAGERIAL CONTRACT WITH MHD PROMOTIONS & A MCLEAN BOOKMAKERS

MHD PROMOTIONS in association with A McLEAN BOOKMAKERS are delighted to announce that after six years together guiding the path of Belfast Super Featherweight JAMES TENNYSON has decided to extend his managerial contract on another long term basis.

Following a successful junior amateur career which saw him win numerous Irish, Ulster & Multi Nations titles James at eighteen turned professional and made a successful debut shortly after his nineteenth birthday at Belfast’s former Holiday Inn hotel.

Tennyson become the youngest Irish professional champion at the tender age of nineteen in only his sixth contest defeating forming Champion Mickey Coveney in two rounds also earning the ring name “The Assassin”

After racking up eight straight victories seven of which by knock out the now twenty year old Belfast boxer suffered a shock second round defeat at the hands of journeyman Pavel Senkos in a learning fight at the SSE Arena in Belfast on the undercard of Carl Frampton v  Jeremy Parodi European title fight.

Defeat either makes or breaks a fighter and James showed great determination to come back a stronger fighter, he dropped down to featherweight and rebuilt his career with three victories before challenging Glasgow’s Kris Hughes for the British Boxing Board of Control’s Celtic Featherweight Title, dispatching him is seven rounds and earning him the mandatory position for the British Featherweight Title.

Four knockout victories and twelve months later seen the growing and maturing twenty one year old struggle to make the featherweight limit when he challenged a good British Champion in Ryan Walsh (still champion today) loosing in the fifth round.

The long and winding road was ahead of him and it was clear, it was time to move back up to Super Featherweight and show his true capabilities as not only fantastic boxer but one of the hardest punchers in world boxing.

Winning his Irish Super Featherweight Title back was at the forefront of his mind following a comeback win and he did just that with an impressive knock out win over Dublin’s talented Declan Geraghty in the eight round at  Belfast’s Waterfront Hall.

The WBA (World Boxing Association) International Super Featherweight Title and a number seven world ranking were up for grabs following his supporting role of Ryan Burnett’s World Title win over Lee Haskins at the SSE Arena Belfast in June 2017 and he took it with both hands following a win in the sixth round over a strong Ryan Doyle of Manchester earning a multitude of new fans in the process.

Adamant on pushing on the now for higher honours “The Assassin” once again stepped up and defended his WBA International Title on the undercard of Ryan Burnett v Zhanat Zhakiyanov world bantamweight unification fight at the SSE Arena Belfast against the exciting multiple weight Scottish Champion Darren Traynor dispatching him in spectacular fashion in round three, a victory that took Tennyson two number two in WBA Ratings earning him rave reviews.

Matchroom Boxing President Eddie Hearn & CEO Frank Smith rewarded the now twenty four year old James Tennyson with a mouthwatering shot at his very talented former outright undefeated British Champion and now European & Commonwealth Champion and world rated Martin J Ward in a unification title fight for Tennyson’s WBA strap and number two world ranking on the Tony Bellew v David Haye II card at Londons O’2 Arena on the 5th May 2018.

Dedication and determination are two asset’s that need no introduction to “The Assassin” and he climbed of the floor shoved his own mouthguard back into his own mouth and destroy an exceptional Martin J Ward in scintillating fashion in five rounds to claim his two championships.

Today we proudly introduce James “ The Assassin” Tennyson as the new WBA World Number 1 Contender in their Super Featherweight division, WBA International Super Featherweight Champion, EBU European Super Featherweight Champion & Commonwealth Super Featherweight Champion.

Details of James Tennyson’s next contest, a mandatory defence of the European Super Featherweight Title against Zamir Ziaini of France will be revealed shortly.
