Naoya Inoue (16-0, 14 KOs) gave a monstrous performance in his stoppage win over defending WBA Bantamweight champion Jamie McDonnell (29-3-1-1ND, 13 KOs) on Friday in Tokyo, Japan.
A solitary round, 116 seconds to be exact is all that was needed for Inoue to put away any thoughts of the champion leaving Japan with his title. Inoue dropped McDonnell initially with an uppercut to the body before following the destruction with a flurry of shots that left McDonnell’s trainer Dave Coldwell with no option but to stop the contest.
Inoue announced afterward of his future aspirations, saying “I’ll participate in the World Boxing Super Series to face other world champions with pleasure.”
