WBA super middleweight champion “Saint” George Groves (28-3, 20 KOs) outpointed Chris Eubank Jr (26-2, 20 KOs) on route to a unanimous decision win on Saturday night at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England.
Groves who retained his title with the win also advances to the final of the World Boxing Super Series, boxed beautifully to hold a big advantage going into the later rounds of the contest. Eubank who had been hindered with a nasty cut from the third round, made a late charge to try turn the tide of the contest, but it was all too late as the judges rendered their scores of 117-112, 116-112, 115-113.
The result is impressive in itself, but becomes even more so as Groves fought most of the last round with a dislocated shoulder, he will now face the winner from next weeks encounter between Callum Smith and Jurgen Braehmer with the final taking place in May.
