Katie Taylor has been recognised for her contribution to women’s sport at The Inspiration Awards for Women.
Ireland’s 2012 Olympic boxing gold medalist from Bray entered the pro ranks last November and has won all six of her professional bouts to date, including an impressive victory on her US debut against American Jasmine Clarkson in July.
The highly touted boxer was recently awarded the Sky Outstanding Contribution to Women’s Sport in 2017 accolade at a glittering ceremony at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in Westminster.
Inspiration Awards founder Sky Andrew said the awards are about “giving the next generation role models that show it is possible to have a sense of status, achievement and success by conducting oneself in a manner that is inspirational.”
Six-time former amateur world champion Taylor says she is ready to make “history” when she takes on Anahi Esther Sanchez in her first professional world title fight this coming Saturday on the undercard of Joshua Takam.
Taylor will challenge the experienced Argentine for the WBA world lightweight belt in what is just the seventh fight of her pro career.
Watch Joshua vs Takam, as well as a packed undercard, from the Principality Stadium, Cardiff, on October 28, live on Sky Sports Box Office
