Heavyweight Joe Joyce got his professional career off to winning ways with the eighth round stoppage of former British title Challenger Ian Lewison at the Indigo at The O2, London.
Very rare do you see such a challenge for a professional debut, showing that Joyce is in a rush to make up for lost time. The Silver Medalist from the Olympic games in Rio took a few rounds to execute his gameplan but when he did the fight was a mere foregone conclusion.
Lewison threw sporadically early on, looking to test the 32-Year old but seemed laboured in his approach, running out of steam after the third before the outcome became bleaker in the fourth when he rolled over on his ankle.
He did, however, make it back to his corner and although in obvious discomfort still made it through another four rounds, but by this time Joyce had begun to enjoy himself, picking off his stationary prey with regularity until Lewison’s corner decided they had seen enough, showing mercy in the eighth by throwing in the towel.
