Fight Report

By Paul McLaughlin – Reece Bellotti pulled off a spectacular win in his featherweight Commonwealth title challenge against Jason Cunningham.

Undefeated Bellotti was up against it for most of the hard fought six round win. Cunningham was the less active of the two boxers but continued to win rounds from the start choosing to pick his punches rather than go all out as his opponent did.  However in the closes stages of the 5th Bellotti caught Cunnigham with a powerful right hook and floored him but luckily for Cunninham he only had to weather a short storm before the bell at the end of the round.

Sensing that his power was having a huge affect, Bellotti went all out in the 6th and again rocked Cunnigham before another barrage of punches meant the referee had no alternative but to step in.

Bellotti’s jubilant corner swept into the ring along with promoter Eddie Hearn to celebrate a hard earned victory.

Reece can now cause quite a stir amongst the featherweight division both domestically and worldwide. A cracking fight to please a cracking crowd.

Elsewhere on the bill

Eric Israel v William Webber

Whilst Bellotti’s win over Cunningham was the fight of the night, the story of the night came from Eric Israel a man who’s parents literally don’t know what he’s up to!

Israel had his debut fight against William Webber who is a huge prospect and was a great amateur fighter.  Israel moved to England six years ago from Nigeria without his family or friends and went to University to study. He then decided that boxing was his passion and went to his local gym and trained before being given his first fight opportunity on the NXTGEN bill.

Webber was winning the fight before Israel’s heavy hands took over, twice knocking down his opponent until Webbers corner through in the towel.

After the bout Eric Israel told everyone that his parents have no idea that he is a boxer…well if he wants to keep that a secret he should maybe avoid fighting live on Sky sports.

Israel seems like a genuinely nice guy and he has caught the attention of Eddie Hearn who is never one to shy away from a cracking back story.

If Israel polishes up on his defensive skills he can become a great boxer as he certainly has power, just keep it to yourself tho.
