Fight Report

By Joe Chavez – Golden Boy Promotions kept true to its word on bringing the fans the most exciting fights showcasing two veterans fighting for their careers.

The main event on ESPN between Riverside’s Mauricio Herrera and Jesus Soto Karass from Los Mochis Sinaloa turned into a brawl and potential fight of the year!

These two Mexican warriors battled it out at Fantasy Springs Casino & Resort in Indio California to the delight of a packed house.

Both Herrera and Soto Karass fought to stay relevant in a talent stacked welterweight division.

The fight went the distance as both fighters traded heavy blows and in the end Herrera (27-4, 7 KO’s) outpointed Soto Karass  (28-11-4, 18 KO’s) 96-94 on two scorecards and 95-95 on the third winning by majority decision.

In the co-main event, the tough LA native Vyacheslav Shabranskyy took on an undefeated contender Todd Unthank-May from Philadelphia for the vacant WBC USNBC light heavy weight title.

Shabranskyy (19-1-0, 16KO’s) looking to reclaim the belt came out strong and never lead up as he defeated Unthank-May (10-1-1, 4 KO’s).

Unthank-May was game but in the seventh round at the advice of the ringside doctor, the corner stopped the fight.

The swing bout featured the exciting Niko “Baby Face” Valdes from Miami, FL.  against Mexico’s Jaime “Zarco” Solorio.

Valdes (6-0-0, 5 KO’s) who previously won his fights via the KO had a hard time finding Solorio.

The six round bout was a rather lacklustre performance by Valdes in which he managed to win by UD 59-55 on two scorecards and 60-54 on the third.

Other notable fights on the card.

Marvin Cabrera of Los Angeles defeated Esau Herrera from Durango Mexico to improve to 5-0 and move up a loaded middleweight division.

Jonathan “Thunder” Navarro outlasted Angel “El Pescador” Sarinana in a tough eight round bout and Ricardo Sandoval (8-1, 7 KO’s) wins over Antonio Sandoval (11-17-1, 5KO’s) in the flyweight division
