WBC / WBO Super Lightweight King Terence Crawford (31-0, 21 KOs) proved once more his standing as one of the world’s best fighters with a Tenth round dissection of the Dominican Republic’s only Olympic Gold Medalist Felix Diaz (19-2, 9 KOs) at Madison Square Garden in New York.

It was an exhibition of class from Crawford who effortlessly moved through the gears, using a mixture of great footwork and accurate shots to daze and bewilder Diaz.

Diaz just couldn’t close the gap between the two men, where on the rare occasion he was able to do so the opportunity to land something sufficient had passed, frustrating nights work, saved from himself by his corner who waved the white flag in the tenth.

“I stopped the fight because I didn’t want him to take any more punishment,” Joel Diaz said. “Enough was enough.”

The victory is even more impressive when you take into consideration the way in which Crawford handled the challenge of Diaz who isn’t your run of the mill journeyman, he had worked his way into the position by beating the likes of Adrian Granados and Sammy Vasquez whilst sporting only one blemish, controversially to Lamont Peterson.

it was the fifth time that Crawford had successfully defended his 140-pound title with a big money payday of Manny Pacquiao lingering attractively in the background.

“I’ve been saying that for years now,” Crawford said. “It’s not up to me. But everybody wants to know who’s the next guy that Terence Crawford wants to fight. I’ll fight anybody. It doesn’t matter who it is.”

If that contest doesn’t happen, Bob Arum as already highlighted Julius Indongo as a possibility for this summer.
